Cherai, cherai beach, cherai beach resorts!!!!!

Cheraibeach is an ideal place for relaxing and Rejuvenating our body and soul

Cherai is a coastal village located in central Kerala, India. This place is a unique combination of sea and backwaters rimmed by lush green coconut palms and paddy fields. The backwaters are a combination of lakes, lagoons, canals and estuaries. Cherai Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Kerala. The 15 km long beach is clean, shallow and is ideal for swimming, surfing and sun bathing.

ActivitiesThere are a lot of activities possible at Cherai beach. The water is shallow and is ideal for comfort swimming. Walking along the beach is another activity.

Early morning is the ideal time for a walk and you may be able to take a peak at the day’s catch in a boat. Another interesting feature of this beach is the variety of sea life you can find on the shore. You can find a wide variety of sea shells, sea birds and if you are lucky and adventurous you can even catch a large crab! Since the beach is long, this activity itself is worth spending a day.
To move around, you can also hire a bicycle from nearby .The local food is delicious especially the sea food. You can try out different crab dishes or the mouth watering butter roasted tiger prawns (which costs around Rs. 200 for 3 pieces). Another ‘must eat’ dish is the ‘Karimeen Pollichathu’.‘Kite flying’ is another timepass activity at Cherai. The beach comes alive during evenings with a lot of colorful kites. You can buy a kite for Rs. 10 and additional chord will cost you Rs.30.It is a ideal place to just relax and sun bath. Most of the hotels at the beach side offer umbrella/chair set.

Touch the soul of Kerala-Taste the real kerala foods

The food of any place is a true reflection of its resources, culture and the tastes and preferences. The cuisine of any place is to a great extent dictated by the available resources and also the weather conditions. Food is an important part of the culture of Kerala state .Kerala is the land of Coconut and the name fits just right for this land which has an abundance of coconut trees. This provides us with the apt explanation behind the dishes thus; coconut forms the base for most dishes here. In fact, meal time is one wherein all the members of the family get together and spend time with each other. Festivals and special occasions in the family or the society is also one where food takes centre stage.

The cuisine of Kerala state, rice is the staple food here. Closeness to the sea ensures easy availability of the choicest seafood. Kerala state are known for their exotic dishes and a delicious spread consisting of mouthwatering biriyanis, pathiri ( a pancake made out of rice flour), fish moilee(fish cooked the traditional way in coconut milk), meen pollichattu(fish cooked in a banana leaf) and other delicacies vegetable dishes .

Kerala Meals are prepared with a lot of care and attention to detail and constitute an important part of every household. A day would usually start with tea or coffee, followed by breakfast. Breakfast in the lower segments of the society is mainly rice gruel or kanji. However, dishes like dosa, idli, vada, upma, poori, pootu (steamed cakes made with rice flour) and appam are very popular. These dishes are also eaten for dinner in many homes. Lunch consists of rice served with delicious curries(like sambhar, dal or parippu, olan, kalan) dry vegetables(like thoran and avial), non-vegetarian dishes, pickles, pappad and the popular banana chips. The traditional meal of Kerala state served on the banana leaf is indeed very famous. This is a practice that has been followed for several hundred years and still continues in several homes. Known as the “Sadhya”, the meal served on fresh banana leaves consists of rice, curries, dry vegetables, pickles, pappads, banana chips and payasam. The payasam or kheer is the traditional sweet dish. It may be made with rice, milk and sugar or can even be any one of its delicious variants. The array of payasams range from the basic rice pudding to one made with lentils and jaggery and coconut milk. Believe me each one them is truly mouthwatering. Weddings and other auspicious occasions are not complete without an elaborate sadhya.

With coconut being available in plenty, coconut oil is the main medium of cooking. However, there has been a significant shift in preferences in the recent times. With the health aspect gaining prominence, many Keralites are shifting to low fat cooking oils. However, the flavor and taste of a dish cooked purely in coconut oil still remains unmatched. Discover the delicious cuisine of Kerala state on your next Kerala tour and you are sure to be left licking your fingers.

Nelliampathy-Nature make itheaven

Nature make it heavenon this earth

We visited this vacation Nelliyampathy for jeep trekking. It was ok initially, like any other forest path. As we moved deeper into the forest, forget that the path became narrow; it was nothing but ditches as deep as 2 ft and boulders. Not to mention that it was an uphill climb. We went for a wild treks in Nelliyampathy rainforests about 54 kms south of Palakkad City in the south western state of Kerala, India. It is a very popular hill station famous for its tea and coffee plantations and excellent weather conditions. It's called as the 'Poor man's Ooty'. It took me almost two hour from Palakkad. On the way we passed the town of 'Nemmara, and 'Pothundi Dam', a small irrigation dam which provides water for the rice fields in the surrounding area. After 23 hair-pin bends and really exciting uphill climb I reached my base at Nelliampathy where I had lunch and a change of vehicles as the terrain was really rough for the next phase of my journey to the top of Maampara peak at 5.249 feet above sea level.

A mountain jeep with an experienced driver was our companions for the final leg of this extraordinary trip to the top.´Raja´s Cliff at Maampara are absolutely breathtaking, both figuratively and literally. This amazing place is accessed by a jungle path, un-believably rocky and steep! At times the jeep ride Nelliampathy photos! The exciting way we took almost felt like going bang up to the zenith. The view from the top was stunning, literally adding colour and space to the word "panoramic", with the reservoir, rivers and mountain ranges all spread in front of you almost giving it a divine touch. The jeep ride for around 10 kms to the peak from the base at Nelliampathy will cost around Rs.500/- which can accommodate upto 4 people. If you are heading Kerala way there are a number of spots like this to explore with a little insider help which can also be arranged. I sincerely hope these photos are good enough to wet your appetite! Happy viewing!!! Cheers

One moment we were climbing up at somewhat 70 degree, followed by a climb-down at a similar angle. At one place, we couldn’t find any track; instead we were climbing a rock face. Throughout this terrific drive, we were holding on to whatever we could to prevent our heads from hitting the top of the jeep. Nevertheless, we were all laughing hysterically and singing a song made for the occasion
